Sustainability Programs

We demonstrate our leadership in sustainable building operations by developing relationships with sustainable partners and suppliers; implementing innovative energy conservation, water usage, and waste reduction initiatives; and measuring and reporting improved operational performance. We will continue our efforts to improve our company's status in the broader commercial real estate industry.

Sustainability Team

Parkway has a full-time dedicated sustainability team with decades of experience with corporate sustainability and LEED certification initiatives. Our sustainability team is focused on benchmarking Parkway's eligible buildings on ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, pursuing LEED certification as feasible and implementing a robust corporate sustainability program across the portfolio.

Environmental Management Systems (EMS)

Parkway has made a commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance into all facets of our business. To help us achieve our ESG goals we have developed a centralized Environmental Management System (EMS) platform that helps us effectively manage all key components of our programs.

Partnerships

Partnering with leading sustainability organizations provides Parkway with the resources and industry knowledge necessary to deliver exceptional results and enance our sustainability program. We work closely with the EPA’s ENERGY STAR for Buildings program, USGBC Local Chapters, BOMA’s Sustainability Committee, the Greenprint Performance Committee, and the local and Federal Better Buildings Challenge programs. Parkway supports local environmental organizations and is frequently invited to participate in industry initiatives and discussions.

ENERGY STAR Partner

Parkway is a major supporter of the U.S. EPA’s ENERGY STAR program. 89% of Parkway’s portfolio earned the ENERGY STAR label in 2016 with an average performance score of 84, meaning that our ENERGY STAR buildings outperformed 84% of all similar facilities nationwide in that year. In addition, our Phoenix Tower building was recognized by the U.S. EPA in 2016 as the longest continuously labeled ENERGY STAR building in the United States, with 18 consecutive ENERGY STAR labels and counting.

Parkway is involved with many local BOMA chapters throughout the country. In addition, Parkway’s Head of Sustainability is a member of the BOMA/GLA Sustainability Committee created to educate and inform BOMA/GLA members on techniques, trends, and methods related to energy efficiency, sustainable practices, and all aspects of green buildings.

Parkway is a USGBC corporate member and a super-user of the USGBC’s LEED Green Building Rating Systems. 95% of Parkway’s total leasable square footage was already LEED certified in 2016. Starting in 2017, all of our LEED certified buildings will also participate in the USGBC’s annual LEED recertification program to continuously track their existing high-performance operations on an ongoing basis.

As a member of its Advisory Board and Performance Committee, Parkway is part of a worldwide alliance of real estate owners, investors, financial institutions, and other industry stakeholders committed to reducing carbon emissions across the global property industry. The ULI Greenprint Center for Building Performance is a dedicated center of research and programming at the Urban Land Institute.

As an active participant in the U.S. DOE’s Better Building Challenge program, Parkway made the commitment to decrease energy and water consumption by 20% across our portfolio from 2016 levels by 2026.

Reporting

As part of our robust Corporate Sustainability programs, Parkway has implemented sustainability policies portfolio-wide, posts annual sustainability reports in accordance with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, and participates in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB).
